Above all is still, but below the sea echoes with a family’s chattering voices. They speak of nothing and everything at once. Far from being the silent world the oceans hold endless noise, conversations of a billion creatures, carried over thousands of miles. By comparison the world above is stale and mute. But they must visit it for life-giving breaths of air. So in unison they rise, surfacing like tranquil gods in calm waters.
In this piece I wanted to capture the beauty and special atmosphere of B.C.’s coastline. Something about those dark misty waters and pine-covered shores is enchanting. Especially if a couple of black-and-white shapes break the glassy surface and fill the air with starry droplets and condensing breath.
